Remove location and device info (EXIF) from photos
See what is hidden in your photos before you share them, then remove it without losing any quality.
What does EXIF contain?
Photos from phones and cameras can carry the shooting location (GPS coordinates), the device model and the time they were taken. If you send the photo as a file by email, a cloud link or a messenger file transfer, that information may travel with it. Services handle this differently, so it is safer to remove it first.
Quality stays the same
The image is not recompressed. Only the parts of the file that hold personal data (EXIF, XMP, IPTC, comments and text chunks) are cut out, so not a single pixel changes. If a photo has rotation info, removing it would make the photo appear sideways or flipped, so that photo is re-saved with its orientation applied, and the result card tells you its quality may change slightly.
Check before you remove
When you add files you first see the location coordinates, the shooting device and the time. You can look at what was there and then remove it.
What is not removed
It cannot remove what is visible in the picture, such as faces, signs or text, the file name, or video data attached to the end of the file such as in some phones' motion photos. The ICC color profile is kept for correct colors.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it only work with JPG?
- It supports JPG, PNG and WebP. For PNG it removes text, time and EXIF data; for WebP it removes EXIF and XMP data.
- What about iPhone HEIC photos?
- HEIC is not supported directly. Convert it to JPG with the HEIC converter; the converted file contains no EXIF.
- The result is smaller than the original.
- It is smaller by exactly the size of the metadata that was removed. The image itself is unchanged.
