Five Things to Check When a Photo Upload Fails

2026-11-08

A checklist for failed photo uploads: file size, format, dimensions and file count, and which tool fixes each one.

Common causes of upload failure

Most photo upload errors come from file size, format or dimensions. Working through the checks below in order solves most of them.

1. Is the file over the size limit?

Forms and boards often limit each file. In the image compressor, choose "Fit to a target size" and enter the limit, and the photo is reduced to fit, for example 300KB or less.

2. Is the format accepted?

Many websites and programs cannot open HEIC photos from iPhone. Convert them to JPG with the HEIC converter. Some forms do not accept WebP either, so choose JPG for anything you submit.

3. Are the width and height right?

Some forms set pixel dimensions. Use "Exact size" or "Max width" in the image resizer. A photo smaller than the target is not enlarged.

4. Is the batch within the limit?

Each tool has a batch limit. For example, the image compressor handles up to 50 files at a time, 100MB each. If you go over, split the batch.

5. Is the saved file intact?

If a downloaded file will not open, save it again. If it still fails, convert the original to another format and try again to narrow down the cause.
